Create a ZIP file online free — bundle files in seconds

Short answer: drop your files into the box above (or tap it on your phone to pick from your device), remove anything you don't want in the list, name your archive, choose Store, Fast or Best compression, and click Create ZIP. The archive is built entirely in your browser with JavaScript — your files never leave your device — and downloads instantly with a report of original size vs ZIP size.

How it works

1. Drop files onto the box — or tap it on your phone to choose from your device. Add as many as you like, in any mix: photos, PDFs, documents, videos, audio. 2. The list shows every file with its size; remove anything you don't want with one tap, or Clear all to start over. 3. Name your archive (defaults to archive.zip) and pick a compression level. 4. Click Create ZIP — watch the progress bar, then the finished archive downloads automatically, with the size savings shown underneath.

Because the ZIP is assembled in your browser tab, there is no upload wait, no queue, and no file ever touches a server. Open your browser's Network tab while it runs if you want proof — you'll see no file data leaving your machine.

Store vs Fast vs Best compression — which should you pick?

Store packs your files with zero compression. It's the fastest option and the right choice when your files are already compressed — JPEG photos, MP4 videos, MP3 audio — because trying to compress them further just wastes time for no gain.
Fast applies light compression. Good middle ground for a mixed bundle when you want it done quickly.
Best squeezes the smallest possible archive. It takes a little longer, but for text-heavy bundles — Word documents, spreadsheets, CSVs, HTML, BMP images, WAV audio — the size difference can be dramatic. This is the default, and the right choice when you're emailing the result or working against an attachment size limit.

Why create a ZIP instead of sending files one by one?

A single archive is easier to share, download and keep track of than twenty loose attachments — one link, one download, everything arrives together. It also sidesteps per-file attachment limits: email providers cap individual attachments, but one ZIP counts as one file. And for text-heavy content, the compression genuinely saves bandwidth and storage. Pair it with its companion tool, Unzip Files Online, when the person on the other end needs to open the archive without installing anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is creating a ZIP file online free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no watermarks, no file-count limits imposed by us. Add your files, pick a compression level, and download the ZIP.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The ZIP is built with JavaScript running in your browser tab — your files never leave your device, are never sent to a server, and are never stored. You can verify this in your browser's Network tab.
Is there a limit on the number or size of files?
There is no artificial limit, but everything is held in your browser's memory, so very large bundles (multiple gigabytes) can run out of memory — especially on phones. For typical bundles of documents and photos up to a few hundred megabytes, it works fine.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser — tap the box to pick files from your phone, or drag and drop on desktop. The download saves straight to your device.
What is the difference between Store, Fast and Best compression?
Store packs files with no compression — fastest, useful when files are already compressed (JPEGs, MP4s). Fast uses light compression for a quick result. Best squeezes the smallest possible size and takes a little longer — ideal for documents, text files and uncompressed images like BMP or WAV.
Can I password-protect the ZIP I create?
Not with this tool, honestly. Browser-based ZIP creation does not support strong encryption, and weak ZIP passwords give a false sense of security. If you need real protection, encrypt the files themselves before zipping.
What kinds of files can I put inside the ZIP?
Anything — photos, PDFs, Word documents, videos, audio, spreadsheets, folders of mixed files. A ZIP archive is just a container; the files inside are unchanged and open normally after extraction.
Why is my ZIP barely smaller than the original files?
That is normal when the files are already compressed — JPEG photos, MP4 videos, MP3 audio and PDFs barely shrink because there is no redundancy left to remove. ZIP shines on text, Word/Excel documents, CSVs, BMP images and WAV audio, which can shrink dramatically.
