Short answer: ToolVaultly’s kitchen and brewing calculators cover the ratio questions that decide whether a batch works: the ABV of a homebrew from its gravity readings, the coffee-to-water ratio for your brew method, the rice-to-water ratio for your rice type and servings, cups to grams by ingredient, and sourdough hydration in baker’s percentages. Each one shows the ratio it used, runs free in your browser, and needs no signup.

Cooking and brewing are ratio games. The same flour behaves differently at a different hydration, the same rice turns to porridge with a generic water rule, and a beer’s strength is invisible until you do the gravity maths. These calculators hold the ratios for you — by ingredient, by rice type, by brew method — so the variable you change is the recipe, not the arithmetic.

Brewers get their own section, because ABV questions come with hydrometers and temperature corrections, while cooks get the conversion and ratio tools for the counter. Everything is free and instant.

Which kitchen calculator do you need?

Brewers start at the ABV calculator: original and final gravity in, alcohol by volume out, with attenuation shown. Coffee people: the coffee brew ratio calculator gives grams of coffee and water by method and strength. For the stove, the rice to water ratio tool matches the ratio to your rice type and servings — the single most-searched ratio in the kitchen. Baking from an American recipe? The cups to grams converter is ingredient-aware, because a cup of flour and a cup of sugar do not weigh the same. And bread bakers dial in dough with the sourdough hydration calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is ABV calculated from gravity?
Alcohol by volume is estimated from the drop in specific gravity between the original and final readings: (OG − FG) × 131.25 is the standard short formula. The ABV calculator applies it and also shows apparent attenuation, and it accepts hydrometer and refractometer-style inputs.
What rice-to-water ratio should I use?
It depends on the rice: long-grain white, basmati, jasmine, brown and sushi rice all absorb differently, and the method (stovetop, rice cooker) matters too. The rice to water ratio tool gives the ratio by type and servings instead of one generic rule.
Why can’t I just convert cups to grams with one number?
Because a cup is volume and a gram is weight — a cup of flour weighs far less than a cup of sugar or butter. The cups to grams converter asks which ingredient you mean and uses its real density.
What does sourdough hydration mean?
Hydration is the weight of water in dough as a percentage of the flour weight — the higher it is, the wetter and more open-crumb the loaf. The sourdough hydration calculator works in baker’s percentages and accounts for the starter’s own flour and water.
Are these kitchen calculators free?
Yes — free, no signup, and they run in your browser, so they are quick to open mid-recipe with floury hands.
