Short answer: ToolVaultly’s home, garden and DIY calculators answer one question before you spend money: how much material does this project actually take? Tile and grout for the bathroom, concrete and gravel by the cubic yard, mulch and topsoil for the beds, grass seed for the lawn, paint and wallpaper for the room — plus the electrical side, with LED resistor values, battery runtime and generator sizing. Enter your measurements and get quantities in bags, yards, gallons and rolls, free, with no signup.

DIY projects blow their budgets in the materials aisle, not the tool aisle. Order too little and you lose a weekend to a second trip; order too much and you are storing bags of cement for a decade. These calculators turn your measurements into order quantities — including the waste allowance and bag sizes that catch people out.

They are organised by project, not by formula: tiling and flooring, bulk materials for the yard, lawn and garden, paint and paper, and the electrical jobs in the garage. Measure the space, pick the matching tool below, and shop with a number you can defend.

Which DIY calculator do you need?

Tiling a floor or shower? Start with the tile calculator for tile and box counts, then the grout calculator for the grout those joints will take. Pouring or spreading bulk material — the concrete calculator, gravel calculator and cubic yard calculator convert your dimensions into yards, tons and bags. For the garden, the mulch calculator, topsoil calculator and grass seed calculator cover beds and lawns. Decorating? The paint calculator subtracts doors and windows properly. And for wiring and power, use the LED resistor calculator, battery runtime calculator and generator size calculator.

What size generator runs your house? Tick appliances, get watts.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra material should I order for waste?
It depends on the material: tiles usually need a tenth extra for cuts (more for diagonal layouts), paint coverage varies with surface texture, and bulk materials settle after delivery. Each calculator states the allowance it applies, and the project guides on the tool pages explain when to raise it.
What measurements do I need before using these calculators?
Length and width of the area for most; depth as well for concrete, gravel, mulch and topsoil. Tile and wallpaper tools also ask for the product size and, for wallpaper, the pattern repeat. A tape measure and two minutes is all it takes.
Do the calculators work in feet and metres?
Yes — every tool here accepts imperial and metric units and converts between them. Quantities come out in the units suppliers actually sell: cubic yards and bags, gallons and litres, rolls and pounds.
What is the difference between the concrete calculator and the cubic yard calculator?
The concrete calculator is built for pours — slabs, footings and walls — and returns ready-mix volume plus bag counts. The cubic yard calculator is the general volume tool for any loose material: mulch, gravel, soil or sand.
Are these DIY calculators free?
Yes — free, no signup, no limits, and they run in your browser on your phone, which is where you will be standing in the aisle anyway.
