Add watermark to image online free — stamp it in seconds

Short answer: drop your photo into the box above, type your watermark text (or switch to the Logo tab and upload a transparent PNG of your logo), choose one of the 9 positions or tick Tile for a repeating grid, adjust size and opacity, then download as PNG, JPEG or WebP. The whole thing runs in your browser — your photo is never uploaded.

How it works

1. Drop a photo onto the box (or tap it on your phone) — JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, any size. 2. Choose Text or Logo. For text, type it, pick a font, color, size and opacity; for a logo, upload a transparent PNG and set its scale. 3. Pick a position from the 9-point pad, set a rotation angle if you like the diagonal look, or tick Tile to repeat the mark across the entire image. 4. The preview updates live — choose your download format and click Download watermarked image.

Because the watermark is drawn with HTML canvas at your photo's full resolution, the output keeps the original pixel dimensions — what you see in the preview is exactly what you download.

Text watermark vs logo watermark

A text watermark — your name, brand, or © notice — is the fastest option and works for everything from portfolio proofs to memes you don't want reposted without credit. A logo watermark (a transparent PNG of your mark) looks more professional on client work, product photos and social content. Both support opacity, rotation and tiling here, so the practical difference is just which one represents you better. Many photographers use both: a small logo in the corner for branding plus tiled text across proofs sent before payment.

Best watermark placement to protect your photos

Placement is what separates a decorative mark from real protection. A small watermark tucked in a corner is trivially defeated — anyone can crop it off in two seconds. The placements that actually deter theft:

Center, semi-transparent: a large, light watermark across the middle of the image can't be cropped without ruining the photo, and removing it with clone-stamp or AI inpainting takes real effort. Keep opacity around 30–50% so it deters without destroying the viewing experience.
Tiled grid: repeating your mark diagonally across the whole image (the Tile option above) is the strongest placement — there is no clean area left to crop to, and erasing every instance without visible damage is impractical.
What doesn't work: tiny corner marks, watermarks placed only over plain backgrounds (easy to paint out), and full-opacity banners that make people not want to look at your work in the first place.

Pair the visible mark with invisible protection too: keep your originals, and note that this tool strips EXIF metadata on export — handy before posting, but keep an unmarked master copy with its metadata intact for proof of ownership.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to a photo online for free?
Drop your photo into the box above, type your watermark text (or upload your logo), pick a position, adjust opacity and size, and click Download. The watermark is stamped onto the image in your browser — no signup and nothing is uploaded.
Can I use my logo as a watermark?
Yes. Switch to the Logo tab and upload a transparent PNG of your logo. You can scale it, set its opacity, rotate it, and place it in any of the 9 positions — or tile it across the whole image for maximum protection.
What is the best watermark placement to protect against photo theft?
A small corner watermark is easy to crop out. For real protection, place a semi-transparent watermark across the center of the image, or use tiled mode — a repeating diagonal grid that cannot be cropped off and is very hard to remove with clone-stamp or AI inpainting without destroying the photo.
Will watermarking reduce my image quality?
The watermark itself only changes the pixels it covers. If you download as PNG, everything else stays pixel-perfect. JPEG and WebP re-encode the photo, so there is a tiny quality trade-off — pick PNG when every pixel matters.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser with HTML canvas — your photo never leaves your device, is never sent to a server, and is never stored. Redrawing the image also strips hidden EXIF metadata like GPS coordinates.
What formats can I upload and download?
Upload JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. Download your watermarked image as PNG (lossless), JPEG or WebP. The output keeps your photo's original pixel dimensions.
Can I tile the watermark across the whole image?
Yes — tick the Tile option and your text or logo repeats in a diagonal grid across the entire photo. Adjust the rotation angle, size and opacity sliders until the coverage looks right.
What is the difference between a watermark and a copyright notice?
A watermark is a visible mark stamped on the image itself — it deters casual theft because the stolen copy carries your name. A copyright notice is a legal statement (like © 2026 Your Name) that can be part of the watermark text. This tool lets you stamp either: type © plus your name as the watermark text for both deterrence and attribution in one step.
