Blur face in photo online free — hide it in seconds

Short answer: drop your photo into the box above, click Add blur area and drag a rectangle over each face, choose Blur or Pixelate, move the strength slider until the face is unrecognizable, then download as PNG or JPEG. The whole thing runs in your browser — your photo is never uploaded.

How it works

1. Drop a photo onto the box (or tap it on your phone) — JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, any size. 2. Click Add blur area and drag a rectangle over a face — or just drag directly on the photo. 3. Add more areas for every face, license plate, address or line of text that must stay private. Drag an area to reposition it, click one to select it, then use Enlarge / Shrink / Delete. 4. Pick Blur or Pixelate and set the strength. 5. The preview updates live — choose your download format and click Download blurred image.

Because the edit is drawn with HTML canvas at your photo's full resolution, the output keeps the original pixel dimensions — what you see in the preview is exactly what you download, minus the dashed selection outlines.

Blur vs pixelate — which hides a face better?

Both hide a face, but they are not equally strong. Pixelate crushes the area into chunky color blocks — the detail is destroyed and no sharpening trick can bring it back. It is the safest choice for sensitive photos. Gaussian blur looks softer and more natural, but a light blur can sometimes be partially reversed with deblurring tools, so always use a high strength for anything that truly must stay hidden. Rule of thumb: pixelate for maximum safety, strong blur when you want it to look a little gentler.

Whichever you pick, zoom in before downloading and confirm nothing is recognizable — eyebrows, glasses frames and tattoos can identify a person even when the eyes are covered, so make each area comfortably larger than the face itself.

Frequently asked questions

How do I blur a face in a photo online for free?
Drop your photo into the box above, click “Add blur area” and drag a rectangle over the face. Choose Blur or Pixelate, set the strength until nothing is recognizable, and click Download. Everything runs in your browser — no signup and nothing is uploaded.
Can the blur be reversed after I download the photo?
No — once you download, the blurred pixels are baked into the exported image and the original detail is gone. There is no hidden layer to recover. That is also why you should zoom in and confirm every area is fully covered before sharing.
Blur vs pixelate — which one hides a face better?
Pixelate is the stronger of the two: it destroys detail in chunky blocks that no deblurring trick can undo. A light Gaussian blur can sometimes be partially sharpened back, so if the photo is sensitive, use Pixelate at a large block size, or Blur at maximum strength.
Can I blur multiple faces in one photo?
Yes — draw as many blur areas as you need. Click “Add blur area” again (or just drag on an empty part of the photo) for each face. Every area can be dragged to reposition, resized, or deleted individually.
Can I blur license plates, addresses or documents too?
Yes. The areas work on anything, not just faces — license plates, house numbers, names or account numbers on screenshots, receipts, barcodes, or any object in the background. Drag a rectangle over whatever must stay private.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser with HTML canvas — your photo never leaves your device, is never sent to a server, and is never stored. Redrawing the image also strips hidden EXIF metadata like GPS coordinates.
What image formats can I upload and download?
Upload JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. Download the blurred photo as PNG (lossless) or JPEG. The output keeps your photo's original pixel dimensions.
Is it free, and does it work on my phone?
Yes — it is completely free with no signup, no watermark and no usage limits. It works in any modern mobile browser: tap to upload, drag with one finger to draw each blur area, pinch-free repositioning with the resize buttons, then download.
