Quick answer: an invisible character remover finds hidden unicode in your text — zero-width spaces, direction controls, exotic spaces — and deletes it. Paste above, click remove, and the "What was removed" table shows every character it stripped.

Need to do the opposite? Our invisible text generator adds blank unicode characters — for blank game names, empty messages and bio spacing.

Invisible character remover

Short answer: paste any text and this tool deletes every hidden unicode character it finds — zero-width spaces, BiDi controls, exotic spaces, stray control codes — then lists exactly what it removed, code point by code point.

Invisible characters sneak in when you copy text from websites, PDFs, Word documents and chat apps. You cannot see them, but software can: they break search-and-replace, make form validations fail for no visible reason, inflate character counts, and split words in ways that confuse plagiarism checkers. This tool is the eraser — the hard-direction counterpart to generating invisible text.

What this tool removes

Short answer: nine families of hidden characters — everything from zero-width spaces to BiDi direction overrides to tag characters most cleaners miss.

Why invisible characters cause problems

Short answer: software reads what your eyes skip — a hidden character inside a word makes "hello" ≠ "hello" for search, validation and plagiarism checks.

A zero-width space inside a keyword means find-and-replace cannot find it. A BiDi override can flip the visual order of text, which is also a known spoofing trick in URLs and filenames. Exotic spaces from Word or HTML look identical to normal spaces but fail strict equality checks — the classic "I typed it exactly and it still says invalid" bug. Character counters on social platforms count invisible characters too, silently eating your limit. Stripping them first removes a whole class of phantom bugs.

Invisible characters in AI-generated text

Short answer: text copied from AI chatbots sometimes carries zero-width characters — cleaning it normalizes the text before you submit it anywhere.

Output copied from ChatGPT, Claude and similar tools occasionally contains zero-width spaces and other invisible markers — formatting artifacts of the chat interface. They are invisible in the chat window but travel with your paste, where they can trip word counters, plagiarism detectors and form validations. Pasting AI-generated text through this remover first gives you clean, plain characters with nothing hiding inside.

Frequently asked questions

What are invisible characters?
Invisible characters are unicode characters with no visible shape — zero-width spaces (U+200B), BiDi direction controls, variation selectors, tag characters, exotic spaces and stray control characters. They hide inside copied text and cause mysterious bugs: broken searches, failed validations and inflated character counts.
How do I remove invisible characters from text?
Paste your text into the box above and click "Remove invisible characters". The tool scans for hidden unicode, strips it out, and shows you exactly what was removed — code point by code point. Then copy the cleaned text or download it as a .txt file.
Will this remove my normal spaces and line breaks?
No. Regular spaces, tabs and line breaks are always preserved. Only hidden characters are removed — zero-width spaces, BiDi controls, exotic unicode spaces and stray control codes. If you tick "normalize exotic spaces", unusual spaces become regular spaces instead of being deleted.
Why does text pasted from ChatGPT sometimes contain invisible characters?
AI chat interfaces sometimes include zero-width characters in copied output — as formatting artifacts or hidden markers. They are invisible in the chat but travel with your paste, and can trip plagiarism checkers, word counters and form validations. Running the text through this remover strips them out.
What is the difference between Remove and Replace with space?
"Remove invisible characters" deletes hidden characters entirely. "Replace with space" swaps each one for a regular space instead — safer when a hidden character was acting as a word separator, so words do not get glued together.
Is my text private?
Completely. The cleaning runs locally in your browser with JavaScript — what you paste is never sent to a server, stored, or tracked.
