Word frequency counter online free — see what you're really saying
Short answer: paste your text above and click Analyze text — you get a ranked table of every word with its count and density percentage, plus character, word, sentence and unique-word stats. No signup, nothing leaves your browser.
Why count word frequency?
Writers use it to spot repetition — that word you've used 40 times without noticing. SEOs and bloggers check keyword density: the % column shows how often your target term appears relative to total words, so you can tell at a glance whether a keyword is over- or under-used. Students and researchers use it to summarize themes in transcripts, survey responses and long documents.
How the options work
Ignore case merges "Cat" and "cat" into one count — turn it off to treat them as different words. Ignore common stopwords filters out filler like the, and, is and of so the meaningful words rise to the top. Min word length hides tiny words, and Show top controls how many rows the table lists (up to 500). Hyphenated words and contractions like "don't" count as single words.
Frequently asked questions
How do I count word frequency in a text?
Paste your text into the box above and click Analyze text. You'll get a ranked table of every word with its count and percentage of the total, plus character, word, sentence and unique-word stats.
What is keyword density and why does it matter?
Keyword density is how often a word appears relative to total words — shown in the % column. Writers and SEOs use it to check they're not overusing a keyword (which reads as spammy) or missing their target term.
Can I ignore common words like "the" and "and"?
Yes — the "Ignore common stopwords" option is on by default and filters out words like the, and, is and of so the meaningful words surface to the top.
Does it count phrases or just single words?
It counts single words (including hyphenated words and contractions like don't). For multi-word phrase analysis, run the text through the Remove Duplicate Lines tool line by line instead.
Is my text private?
Completely. Analysis runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored or tracked.
